Photo Stalking

A back to back agreement with WELSH DEER MANAGEMENT means we are able to offer a wonderfully exciting opportunity for those who wish to PHOTO STALK the small local population of totally wild RED DEER, SIKA DEER and FALLOW DEER. NB. These are NOT park animals situated on a deer park or farm.

Photo Stalking is best done in the very early morning or late evening. However, depending on where the deer are holding, occasions do present themselves in normal daylight hours. You have to be reasonably fit and capable of extended hiking (Normally around 2-3 hours for an average stalk). You will have to have your own
hiking boots or at the least stout shoe wear. Plain drab coloured clothing (dark greens/browns/buffs etc) will suffice but to get really close you will need some form of camouflaged clothing. We have a local supplier of very reasonably priced camouflaged wear. We can supply the camouflaged face masks and gloves.

The Photo Stalking is best achieved with one person at a time being escorted. The best times to get the really good close shots are during the
rutting season which generally is between mid Sept. and mid Nov. depending on climatic conditions. There are photo opportunities apart from the rut but the stags lose their antlers in late winter and they don’t grow back until the late spring.

You will need a good quality
SLR camera and a fixed or zoom lens of around 300mm. If you do not have one, we can arrange for you to rent one of ours. All photographs taken during the stalk become your intellectual property even though they may be taken on our rented cameras. However, we do ask that we can use your images on our websites free of charge.

Prices vary according to the seasons and where the deer are holding. Ring us with your requirements and we can give you a guide price over the phone. Final price is subject to the exact length of time taken to achieve the desired results and how much time you wish to spend watching the animals. We reduce the charge considerably if deer are not seen. (a very rare occurrence - but they are wild and don’t always do what we ask of them !)

These are some recent photographs of
Red deer in just a part of the stalking area. For a full album go to WELSH DEER MANAGEMENT (for some terrific black and white images) or UK DEER MANAGEMENT (for full colour images). The images on these websites are available for purchase and download to your computer.
